During the past couple of months, COVID-19 has gripped the world with the ever increasing number of infections and deaths. As of this writing, a third of the world population is practicing social distancing, under some sort of "stay at home lockdown", and quarantine.
Although the World Health Organization advises social distancing is an effective and important public health method to reduce the number of infections, we must also learn how to boost our immune systems to fight off these infections.
Since schools are closed for month and we are on "stay at home" lockdown, our grade school kids are asking about the COVID-19 and why we have to stay at home.
I heard myself talking about infectious diseases and how our immune system works as if they were adults. I knew I was losing them. I thought there must be illustrated videos on Youtube to explain these concepts easier than I can. Luckily, I was right.
Below, I've listed my top 2 videos: The first one is "kid friendly", easy to explain and somewhat fun to watch with your kids about how the immune system works. The second one is for the parents to watch on how to boost your kid's immune system.
1. TED-Ed's "How Does Your Immune System Work?"
I just watched a great video from Ted-Ed (below) about the immune system with my grade school kids. It is easy to understand, only a little over 5 minutes, and illustrated so it is "kid friendly."
I can see that my kids were engaged throughout the video by the way they made comments and repeated the information out loud.
2. ModernMom's post titled, "Dr. Sears explains how to boost your child's immune system."
Dr. Robert "Dr. Bob" Sears is a board-certified Pediatrician practicing in Southern California, USA and is a father of three. The video is only 4 minutes long and offers great information on how to boost your kid's immune system.
I hope you found these videos as helpful and informative as they were for me and my kids.
