There is a lot of cleaning to be done in our food system around the world. The Environmental Working Group (EWG) has launched its 2018 dirty dozen food list which reminds us that a healthy lifestyle includes avoiding foods that contain pesticides. According to the test that was held by the EWG, 70% of the non-organic food items had at minimum one pesticide in them. In a lot of cases, the number of pesticides of much higher this puts our health at immense risk! To get a shiver of disgust, a small but non-organically grown strawberry was found positive for having 22 pesticides in it.

DIRTY DOZEN FOOD LIST

The foods that have been entitled unhealthy due to existence of pesticide in them are listed below for you. According to Dr. Kim Khauv it is best to try buying organic food in our daily routine so that we can build stronger bodies that help us survive through the daily stress and fatigue.

1. Strawberries:

In the light of the research done by the Environmental Working Group, a single strawberry showed positive for 22 pesticides. Sixteen percent of the strawberries add harmful elements in them like carbendazim and endocrine disruptor. It is also shown that 9 million pounds of fumigation poisonous gases get injected into the fields before the strawberries get planted (let that sink in). This is done so that the harmful pests get killed but people fail to understand that these gases also kill beneficial microbes in the soil depleting the nutrients of eating strawberries as well. This all makes it land at the top of the dirty dozen food list which needs to be avoided or if you love them, you ought to get your hands on the organic strawberries. They will certainly cost you a little more but they will be worth it.

2. Spinach:

Non-organic spinach has 7% of different chemicals on it which make it pesticide prone by all means. The highest amount of pesticide found in spinach is of 18 different types of chemicals and pesticides in one of the worst kind. Moreover, a lice killing chemical was also discovered in the spinach crops that can cause seizures and tumors in human body.

3. Pears:

Since 2010, the amount of pesticide used for growing pears through non-organic methods has doubled. The Environmental Working Group has showcased that the pesticides used in growing pears is extremely harmful for male hormones and to hormone disruptors too. It has also been banned in Europe as it has been proven that the pesticides used in it can be cancerous. Patent bee killing chemicals have also been discovered in pears which make them one of the top dirty dozen foods.

VERDICT:
