Mission Valley Chiropractor Says Goodbye to Neck Pain

Metro Manila chiropractor helps neck pain

A stiff neck is one of the most debilitating conditions that can occur. Continuous neck pain can be a life limiting conditioning preventing proper functioning at work and home. You must be able to differentiate an occasional stiff neck and a condition that needs proper medical care. Chiropractic care is one of the methods used to treat neck pain.

It is time to see a chiropractor if:

  • You have a stiff neck that has lasted 3 or more days

  • You have used over the counter medication for more than 5 days to relieve neck pain

  • Looking left or right produces pain

  • The neck pain was caused by a serious event like auto injury and whiplash

  • The pain spreads to the hands and/or causing tingling sensations to the fingertips

  • You feel pain in the morning and gradually better during the day

Causes of neck pain

Misalignment of vertebrae is the most common cause of neck pain. It occurs when;

  • The neck has been in an awkward posture for a long time e.g. working on a ceiling

  • There is consistent poor posture like hunching over a desk

  • The neck is suddenly moved beyond its normal range of motion e.g. in a whiplash

  • You sleep on your stomach on a flat pillow

Pinched nerves can also cause neck pain. The vertebrae bones are cushioned against each other by intervertebral disks and nerves. When there is misalignment of vertebrae, they crowd against the nerves in a pinching movement.

Chiropractic care

Using chiropractic care for neck pain is a safe non-surgical option that can achieve results quicker. The chiropractor will use of the following common techniques:

Cervical manual traction

The patient lies face up or sits while the chiropractor mimics the natural movements of the neck. He stretches the neck in varying degrees of flexion (forward) and extension (backward) movements. This is done to look for the degree that relieves most tension.

Cervical mobilization

This is combined with manual traction for effective treatment. The patient lies face up or sits while the chiropractor moves the neck side to side while varying the degree at which the neck is bending forward or backwards. Figure 8 movements are also applied in smooth movements. This technique is to reduce fixation where the neck’s movement is restricted.

Cervical chiropractic adjustments

The patient lies on the back while the chiropractor applies a gentle movement into the neck to restore the proper function and range of motion to the neck.
